About MIRI

The Maldives Island Research Initiative (MIRI) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to seeking solutions to the Maldives' evolving socio-economic and environmental challenges.

As a nation of low-lying islands, the Maldives faces significant threats from climate change, rapid urbanization and economic inequality. MIRI was founded to focus on these pressing issues while promoting inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development.

Bridging the gap between research, advocacy, and linking these to actions and practical solutions, MIRI seeks to integrate global best practices with the lived experiences of Maldivian communities and local solutions.
